Culture is bigger, stronger and faster than strategy Micro-blog series
Lots of things are good ideas. Getting up early. Exercising. Eating Right. Less coffee. Those are all great examples of strategy.
Culture satisfies an actual need. And it satisfies the need RIGHT NOW. You roll over and go back to sleep before you think about it. You eat that cookie (or drink that glass of wine) because you deserve it.
So, to quickly identify your culture, look and see what in-the-moment needs people are most often satisfying.
- Are they satisfying their own needs or those of others?
- Are they satisfying the needs of those more “powerful” than they are or the needs of those most in need of help in the moment?
- Are they satisfying the needs of a small clique or the needs of the larger group?
- And, maybe most importantly, are they satisfying the needs of the present, the needs of the next day, or the needs of the far future?
If your culture and your strategy don’t naturally match, your culture will win every battle, every time, and your strategy won’t stand a chance.
So guess which one you should work on first?!? Curious for more?
